Default Change of notice in redundancy offer

    Hi,

I was recently informed that I would be made redundant on the 7th of August as there our company had not received a contract for the role I was in. I received written confirmation of this notice detailing why and how much I am getting, in which the employer stated they would pay the additional 5 weeks notice I am entitled to in lieu and would cease employment on the 7th as originally stated (having had worked 4 weeks notice - I have been with the company for 9 years)

They mentioned that they may be able to offer me a similar role (covering more contracts for less money) which I considered and informed them it is not something I would be interested in which the employer accepted.

However now they require me to work the entire notice period to train another member of staff to do my job.

Are they entitled to do this? or does the first written offer with the redundancy outlined still apply (If I want it to)

Nothing has changed as far as the role is concerned if I was leaving on the 7th as I was originally told there would still be a skill shortfall the would require a member of staff to be trained.

I suspect they were expecting me to accept their offer of a reduced salary so did not see through the "what if" scenario and left it too late for the required training.

I am concerned because I have applied for many jobs since receiving my notice and have put that I am able to start work after the initial notice period had finished.

    Regards
    Ian

    Hi

If your employer has served you with formal written notice (so you have an termination date) they are unable to change this without your agreement.
