A couple of weeks ago I was facing statutory redundancy for my work as a Senior Secretary but was offered a new position as an Executive Secretary in a different department due to the employee taking up maternity leave. I am therefore currently on a one month trial basis. My problem is that the woman I share the office with is hostile towards me and goes out of her way to not speak to me and to make me feel uncomfortable. This woman works for another department as an Executive Secretary, and has worked for the company for 20 years whereas I have only been 3 years with the Company. I feel this woman is affecting my trial period as I am uncomfortable in such a hostile atmosphere. She goes days without speaking to me, only Good Morning and Good Evening and when I try to have light conversation she tells me she doesn't mean to be rude but she is too busy to talk, yet when somebody else comes into the office she starts to chat to them. I feel she does all this on purpose. As you can imagine this is affecting me. I like the people I work for, and the position itself, but do not like this lady who is rude and hostile and who I am forced to share an office with. What are my legal rights in this situation and my options? Should I just give up and take redundancy? I would really appreciate the help from the solicitors here and from other posters too!
