I've received a 'risk of redundancy' letter basically saying due to the current economic climate my position as sole IT person within the company is to be made redundant and my work is to be shared between remaining employees who are incapable of doing my job and the possibility of the company offering me work on a per incident basis for a fee.
Do I have grounds for unfair dismissal as my job still technically exists.

Redundancy due to cost cutting.

Hi
From time to time employers are required to restructure the business. We are seeing this happen more now and it is one of the many unfortunate side effects of the economic climate.
If you are the only IT person in the company doing this work of a particular kind, there is not a need for others to be in the selection pool. Furthermore, if there is a genuine reason for your proposed redundancy e.g. reorganisation/restructure then your redundancy is potentially fair.
Your employer should consult with you properly about the potential redundancy and the reasons for it and ways of avoiding it. They should also be looking at alternative employment for you within the business.Clara Buckingham
