Hi, I work for a medium sized company who employ 1500 or so people. There have been many redundancies particularly since Jan 2008. The 90 day consultancy period started from 10th January 2008. (18 months ago).
In the I.T. department where I work we were shown a new departmental structure and my role of project manager no longer existed. So to speed things up I applied for voluntary redundancy and had my first consultation meeting in February this year. At that meeting very little was said - just confirming that I still wanted VR and so it was quite a quick meeting. I was told the company could not confirm my leaving date at that stage but it would not be before the end of 2009.
I was also told at that meeting that the next meeting would take place when they had a redundancy date for me.
My manager told me this was expected to be towards the end of 2009 but the expectation is changing and I have been told it was likely to be March 2010 and more recently that it has moved again and is likely to be mid year 2010.
Is the company within its rights not to tell me a redundancy date. Is my manager within his rights to keep telling me that the expected date is changing in this way.
If I want to get insurance or a new mortgage I would not be able to whilst under the threat of redundancy so is it right that my company can keep me under this threat of redundancy for so long.
regards,
Ingie001.
