Since Nov 2007 I have been in a possible redundancy situation, after the company was sold to a new investor. We chugged along with me continuously moaning of having no work. In November 2008 a new computer system was installed cutting the work load to around two hours a day. Sadly still no redundancy! In March we lost a contract which meant I lost my all day Wednesday job (should have taken an hour at reasonable pace), still no redudancy.
I felt so ill with the sitting about doing nothing I had to go off sick, ironically with menta fatique! After four weeks of sick leave I approached my employers myself, putting forward my proposal for redundancy. Stating the job, because it was so menial could be readvertised as office junior, hours reduced to approx 15 and the wage rate dropped by £3.45 per hour to £6.00.
I am still off sick and waiting to hear. My notice period for this position is two months and I am unsure where I stand. I am only paid SSP so am not milking the company for full sick pay. I am just unable to sit and stare vacantly into a screen for up to six hours a day. I used to start work at 3pm and finish at five, so that I was on a high when I left the office had completed my workload. Start time was 9am.
I am unsure of my rights and will my employers require me to return and complete my two months notice?
