Customer given us 1 weeks notice
A customer has given us 1 weeks notice that our service contract is ending. We have 2 employees who work there part time. so their final day will be next week. They have both worked for us for 1 year + (7 under TUPE).
We have only just found out about this ourselves yesterday. This means that we have only been able to give them 1 weeks notice. They like working for us, we got the contract through them giving us the nod in the first place and we don't really want to lose them. If we had something else for them to do it would be ideal but we haven't at the moment.
Where does this leave us in terms of giving them notice? When we've only had 1 week ourselves.

The amount of notice you have to give staff is not dependent on the notice given to you by your customer. It is determined by what is in their contract of employment or statutory notice, whichever is greater. You could pay them in lieu of notice if there is no work for them to do. You may also need to pay them redundancy pay if they have more than 2 years' service.
