Hi,
We are going through the redundancy process with our Nanny (our daughter is starting school and my wife is able to reconfigure her work commitments to manage without a nanny). We have had the initial meeting where we outlined our reasons for the proposed redundancy. The next meeting, where the nanny can put forward reasons why the redundancy can be avoided, is scheduled for this Tuesday, with the decision to be communicated on Wednesday - the following shift. The reason for this timeline is that for the following three weeks either she or we are on vacation.
Unfortunately, the nanny has just texted me to advise that she will be sick on both Tuesday and Wednesday this week. This will potentially delay the whole process by 4 weeks.
How should we proceed?
Many thanks, P.

The bottom line is nothing your nanny could say would make any difference to the outcome. You've decided you no longer need a nanny so although technically you should 'consult', in practice it will not affect the outcome.
I would suggest you speak to your nanny and ask her over the phone whether there were any concerns/issues or points she wished to raise, then assuming not, go ahead with a nice letter confirming your decision and expressing regret not to have been able to do it in a meeting.
