Default Are we being legally correct ?

    Hi there.

My golf club is currently in some financial difficulties, with the Bank refusing an overdraft facility that we usually have, unless we can show substantial savings in costs. The largest overhead cost is that of our Secretary/Manager, and we are now considering making this role redundant - covering it with members and volunteers.

We have just decided to move forward with this and have prepared a letter which basically says that it is a notification of considering redundancy of the role and asking her to come back with alternative options or comments within 5 days. We have explicity said on the letter that it is NOT a notice of redundancy.

Are we going down the right line for things to be legal?

    Phil

    Hi Phil

You are on the right lines, but you do need to tread carefully. You should consult with her over at least a two week period before coming to a conclusion and, if appropriate, serving her notice.

You may want to look at my guide to redundancy, which explains the basic steps you should follow.

    Regards

    Pete

Thanks for that Peter - and yuor guide is a very good source of information.

We are currently waiting for our bank to give us an idea of how much they expect us to save - and will then move things along.

I may well be in touch.

    Phil
